There is no way to talk about Tarifa without talking about the wind. The east and west wind blowing through the Strait of Gibraltar has turned this city into the kitesurfing and windsurfing capital of the world. Every year, thousands of athletes from all over the world come to enjoy conditions that only the geographical privilege of the Strait of Gibraltar can offer.
Why is the wind of Tarifa so special?
The Strait acts as a channel that accelerates and channels the prevailing winds. The levante (from the east) can reach 50-60 km/h regularly, whereas the west (from the west) offers milder but equally usable conditions. The combination of both ensures windy days all year round.
