If we had to choose the best month to visit Tarifa, many of us who know the town well would say that it is September. The temperatures are perfect, the sea is at its warmest, the beaches are empty now that the holiday crowds have left, and the Andalusian light of early autumn has a golden quality that is impossible to describe in words.
The weather in September
Temperatures range from 20°C at night to 28–30°C during the day. The sun shines brightly but without the oppressive heat of August. The wind, so characteristic of Tarifa, remains strong—ideal for water sports—but windless days are more frequent than in summer.
The sea at its best
After three months of summer warmth, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean reach their peak temperatures in September: between 22°C and 24°C. Swimming in these waters is an experience you’ll never forget.
No crowds
September’s best-kept secret: families with children have gone home, teenagers are back in school, and the beaches are less crowded. You can stroll along Los Lances, climb the castle walls, or grab dinner at any restaurant without waiting.
Seasonal Activities
- Kitesurfing and windsurfing: the easterly and westerly winds remain excellent.
- Hiking: cooler temperatures make the trails more pleasant.
- Migratory bird watching: The great autumn migration of raptors begins.
- Boat tours: calmer seas make for smoother outings.
At The Wind Palace We welcome September as if it were the start of a new season. Come see for yourself.
